Refreshed, Recharged, and Ready to Tackle New Challenges
After a refreshing summer holiday with my family in the picturesque town of Menaggio on Lake Como, Italy, I’m excited to jump back into work. The trip was a wonderful experience, though I might have developed a slight obsession with gelato—Dark Chocolate and Raspberry was a clear favourite!
Now that I'm back, I wanted to share some updates, reflections, and upcoming priorities in my day-to-day professional life.
Recruitment Process Updates
A seamless recruitment process is at the heart of building strong teams, and it’s something I’ve been keenly focused on. Since my return, I’ve dived back in to ensure progress continues smoothly. Some highlights include:
- Tracking the onboarding of a significant number of new hires
- Clearing documentation of bottlenecks to ensure roles are quickly processed and filled for upcoming start dates
Streamlining Collaboration with Agile Practices
Consistency in process improvement is key to maintaining momentum, particularly during seasonal dips like summer when attendance or team bandwidth can fluctuate. I’ve been using daily standup meetings to keep workflows steady, while adopting Agile methodologies to keep processes flexible and efficient.
Expanding Talent and Capability Development
On the learning and development side, I’ve been contributing to initiatives focusing on upskilling and talent intelligence. For example:
- Wrapping up one phase of strategic planning and moving into the next cycle of team development actions.
- Balancing commitments between long-term growth strategies and other core talent acquisition efforts. Progress can sometimes involve trade-offs, and I’m constantly evaluating where I can create the most value for both team priorities and individual development.
Overcoming Challenges and Mapping the Path Forward
Admittedly, there are some deliverables and objectives I wasn’t able to fully address this week. I believe in being transparent about challenges because they’re a natural part of professional growth. Some areas that are still in progress include:
- Developing resources for training on tools like Power Query and Agile project delivery.
- Completing action plans for strategic surveys to gather more insights on team and project performance.
These initiatives remain high on my priority list, and I’m looking forward to driving them forward in the coming weeks.
Personal Development Milestone
One of the highlights of my week was attending a fantastic introduction to AI concepts through a highly-recommended foundational workshop. The insights I gained are already influencing how I think about innovative ways to solve challenges at work. Plus, it feels great to dedicate time to personal learning amidst a packed work schedule!
Looking Ahead
As I refocus and plan strategically for the coming weeks, I’m reminded of the importance of striking a balance between immediate tasks and longer-term goals. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that the clearer the priorities, the smoother the journey.
